Rosemary ( Rosmarinus officinalis ) is the invigorating medicinal plant in Europe. Pastor Kneipp recommended rosemary wine to the elderly to regenerate their strength. Originally at home in more southerly climes, the frost-sensitive subshrub, which can grow up to 2 meters high, thrives in sunny locations here.
The evergreen, lanceolate leaves are leathery and rolled back at the edges. The delicate, pale blue flowers appear from April to June. During this time, the branches are harvested; they should dry in a shady, airy place. Because of its strong aroma, Rosemary had cultic significance in ancient times.
But the Greeks, who consecrated him to the goddess of beauty and love, Aphrodite, knew perfectly well of his all-around invigorating healing properties. Monks brought the rosemary bush to Germany across the Alps, and it was soon grown not only in monastery gardens but also in every cottage garden.
Until the 17th century, Rosmarinus officinalis was the symbol for bridal couples: the bride wore a wreath made of Rosemary, and the groom lit a twig. Rosemary stood for fertility. There was a reason for this in folk medicine: Rosemary is able to regulate the monthly cycle and thus promote the willingness to conceive.
It helps with premenstrual syndrome, premature or delayed, heavy or painful menstrual bleeding; even with cyclical migraine attacks, he can achieve success.
The application of Rosemary
Rosemary should be grown outdoors as a container plant from spring to autumn. In winter, he needs a cool place in the house. You can harvest fresh leaves yourself for immediate consumption. It is better to buy dried Rosmarinus officinalis leaves from the pharmacy, as they need to be dried quickly at low temperatures (35 ° C).
Do not use Rosemary in the evening as it is too stimulating and could disturb your sleep.

Rosemary tea helps relieve fatigue and a bad mood.
Scald 1 teaspoon of dried Rosmarinus officinalis with 1/4 liter of boiling water. Cover and let the tea brew for 15 minutes before straining it. Drink 1 cup of fresh honey-sweetened tea in the morning and at noon instead of coffee or black tea. Rosemar_y tea is particularly helpful for exhaustion, cardiovascular weakness, and digestive problems.
Stimulating Rosmarinus officinalis bath
Pour 1 liter of water over 50 g of dried Rosmarinus officinalis and let the mixture steep for 30 minutes over the lowest heat. Pour the brew through a sieve directly into the bathwater. The bathing temperature should be 34 to 37 ° C, and the bathing time should not exceed 15 minutes. After the bath, rest in a lying position for 30 minutes.
Homemade rosemary wine for the heart and circulation
Soak 25 g of fresh or 10 g of dried Rosemary in 3/4 l of dry white wine in the corked bottle for five days. Then strain the wine into another bottle. If you are exhausted or have a cardiovascular weakness, drink one small liqueur glass of this wine in the morning and at noon.

Side effects are not to be expected with normal dosage. You should not use the essential oil internally as it can irritate the mucous membranes. A rosemary bath is not necessarily suitable for the evening, as it wakes you up. Rosemary tea should not be used during pregnancy.
